Photo Shoot Explanaion

For my photo shoot I took a camera to Whitby Goth Weekend, whilst there I took pictures of people in steam punk costume. After asking their permission I asked them to pose in certain poses which allowed me to get the required shot for each page. i also went to a live show where some steam punk bands were playing this allowed me to get some live shots.

For the front cover I took a picture of a couple stood looking towards the camera. This direct mode of address was perfect for my front cover. i chose to only use the man and baby as they were a lot more striking and would draw more attention to the magazine.

For the contents page I took a picture at the live event this picture was good as it was indirect mode of address and I used it to split the page it also adds some sense of movement to the page.

For my main picture on the double page spread I used an image which I think is the best I took, it has a figure to one side then an open space to the right this allows me to use this space for the text.

Creating backgrounds

The backgrounds in my magazine were either derived from a digital photo taken on my photo shoot, created on adobe Photoshop or a mixture of the 2.

Practice task-college magazine cover and contents

This is my front cover for the college magazine.

This is the contents page for my college magazine

photoshop practice

The brief was to design a aftershave advert using photoshop and some pictures. i chose these pictures as they were all black and white and had the same 'retro' feel. I removed the white backgrounds from the bottle and the man the placed them on the manhattan background. I then altered the blending options to soften the edges as well as changing the opacity.
This task helped me develop my photoshop skills.

Questionnaire result analyse

Form the results i found that most people enjoy a wide variety of music styles. Most people's parents belong to the social grades between B and D. I also found that most people are not really belongers as they are not brand loyal, they also enjoyed social activities as a group with friends or a a group(i.e Middlesbrough F.C). This is also reinforced by the fact that very few of the subjects had religious views. Most belonged to the group socially conscious type A as most were keen recyclers. Very few were emulators/ 'wannabes' as very few said yes to question 18 (see previous post). Most had political views but few had no interest. Most considered themselves as 'normal' when referring to their social group. Most of the people asked had jobs this reflects their desire to be achievers this reflects Emulator attitudes.  I used questions 2 and 3 to identify the social groups where as question 13 identified social grades. Questions 7 and 14 identified belongers. question 18 showed emulators and wannabes.  Questions 15, 16 and 17 revealed socially conscious group A.

This professional picture of the group their stance suggests adventure, captain Roberts telescope reinforces this, this also links with the steam punk as a genre as it is based around the Victorian era and technological advances.  The clothing also heavily reflects the steam punk style, it also show the bands fictional background as airship pirates. The inclusion of goggles also adds to the airship pirate theme and ties the group in with the general steam punk look. The group picture is taken in the rule of thirds; levels are also used, as Captain Roberts appears taller than the entire group signifying his importance as the captain. The others are on different levels not due to significance in the band but to give the picture more depth.
